Welcome to the first monthly installment of the GD monthly wrap up, an open invitation for you - our amazing clients - to discover everything that’s been going on in the GD office in July. As a team of digital marketers, we’ve got a knack for keeping up with the latest virtual trends, Google news and social media movements. But what about the things that are happening off-screen?
Here, we swing open the studio doors so you can get to know the team a little better, and recognise the names and faces behind your marketing campaigns. Because at GD, we’re a little different - we’re your partners in business.
...WITH THE TEAM
This month we announced two exciting promotions! Elly has been promoted to Head of Sales and Projects, while Toby has been promoted to Head of Digital Experience. We are very excited to see what these two achieve in their new roles.
When asked what they find most rewarding about their new roles, Toby said he enjoys “collaborating with my team to improve processes, as well as having a more hands on approach with helping grow the business.”
On the other hand, Elly said: “For Projects, it’s of course my team. I love supporting them and working together to deliver the projects for our clients. As Head of Sales, being part of the growth of GD allows me to meet some really cool people with exciting and fun brands.”
We welcomed a new Social Media Manager, the lovely and talented Beth! This smart cookie is working with us part-time while she finishes up her Masters in Marketing. When we asked Beth what she is loving the most about working with us so far, she said: “The funny conversations that I overhear, and the good banter and humour in the office.” She fits right in with a funny bone herself... When asked how she was juggling her role at GD with uni work, she replied “I don’t know how to juggle!” We’re so happy to have you, Beth!
We’re so proud of our Projects Coordinator and Office Assistant Alex for graduating university this month that we all gathered around our screens to watch her ceremony virtually. Now that she’s got a Bachelor of Business majoring in Events Management and Marketing, she’s officially a marketing mogul. “My amazing Gordon Digital family gave me so much support and encouragement during my final semester,” Alex said. Aww.
...WITH DIGITAL MARKETING
This month, our SEO team tackled a new core algorithm update on Google called the Page Experience Update. In a nutshell, the new algo puts user experience first, and is broken down into three key areas:
- Largest contentful paint (LCP)
- First input delay (FID) and
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)
This means a LOT for your brand’s rankings on Google and website visibility! We prepared our clients’ sites for the update before the rollout took place, so they were up to speed on the new metrics. While most websites lost their positioning on search pages overnight, our clients experienced a small dip that was quickly recovered as our team followed best practices.
WHAT WE'RE LOVING
Cultivating a social office culture is hugely important at Gordon Digital, as one of our values is to be nurturing - of each other and our work. Here, we want to share with you the things some of our team members were interested in this month, so you can get to know them a little better!

WHAT WE'VE LEARNT
To be perfectly honest, we were pretty happy to wave goodbye to July. There were some challenging days for the team, and most of our NSW-based clients experienced business struggles with their recent lockdown. But if there was any light poking through the gloomy July clouds, it was that we learnt how to be resilient!
As a few of our large clients decided to do their marketing internally to deal with tighter budgets, we started putting some measures into place to become a better resource for in-house teams. These changes also pushed us to consider how we diversify our offering by providing clients with an omnichannel strategy. We’re constantly looking for ways to improve our services for our clients while supporting our team, so developing a consulting service is an exciting business move we’re making right now - a big lesson learnt from a tough month.
WHAT WE'VE CELEBRATED
Partnering with our clients, we’ve celebrated some amazing wins this month!
