September Marketing Wrap Up

We’re headed into the final quarter of 2024 and it’s time to look back on September.

The Gordon team has spent the last month onboarding exciting new clients, kicking goals, attending (and sponsoring!) networking events, and generally working very hard.

It was a productive month, and we’re excited to share some of our highlights.

Phoebe Joined the Performance Team

We kicked off September by welcoming a new face to the Gordon team!

Phoebe joined us as a Senior Paid Ads Specialist. We’ve borrowed her expertise all the way from the UK where she’s previously worked for several well-known marketing agencies.

With a background in Google and Meta ads, Phoebe has already had some fantastic results for her new portfolio.

We welcomed Phoebe in proper Gordon style by heading across the road for a pub lunch. Our local fare doesn’t compare to the exotic dishes Phoebe’s had on her travels, but it was a great excuse to show off one of our favourite lunch specials!

August Core Update Client Win

Here’s a quick client win for the books!

Google’s August Core Update caused a little bit of upheaval in the rankings. It always does, and it can take up to 3 months to see the search results settle out.

We’re happy to share this client’s progress – their core keywords are back to the same positions as before, and we’ve seen a rankings jump for some of their secondary keywords.

It’s a reminder not to scramble when Google releases a Core Update. There are always ups and downs, but the results will return to normal as long as we’re getting the important bits right.

The Edge of Search 2024 Conference

Our SEO team finished the month by heading to Newcastle for the Edge of Search Conference!

Edge of Search is an event that’s focused on the idea that SEO is more than just Google. We saw presentations from 10+ speakers about SEO, branding, social media, content creation, user experience, AI and much more.

Each presentation came with its own case study to show how these experts are moving the needle for their clients.

It was a cold, wet and windy two days, but it was a fantastic chance to meet some industry leaders and get their take on the state of SEO in 2024.

AI Overviews Have Arrived!

Google has been testing and rolling out AI Overviews for months – and they’re finally in Australia.

The first AI Overviews landed on Australian Google right at the end of September. They’re everything we were expecting based on the early reports and a few lucky sightings in our own search results.

The arrival of AI Overviews isn’t breaking news. We’ve been expecting it for months, and we’ve been shifting our SEO strategies to ensure clients are ahead of the trend.

We can’t be certain how AI will affect the search results or brand visibility just yet. For now, we’re focusing on helpful content and building brand authority in the eyes of Google.

That makes it more likely our clients’ websites will show up – even when AI Overviews are involved – and help them build more meaningful connections with their audience.
